Spirit of Portugal 2027
September 18 - 26, 2027
Porto, Évora & Lisbon

Click Here: Spirit of Portugal 2027

Experience Portugal’s true "spirit" and endless charm, from top to bottom, in one perfect week!Fruits & Roots Spirit Tours bring together an extraordinary mix of the nation’s traditional spirit drinks and the genuine spirit of its people, their culture, food, history and music. We offer an unforgettable experience that leaves you longing to return for more!

Charming cities perched on peaceful riverbanks. Elegant Old Towns laced with cobblestone lanes. Too many opulent churches, palaces, and architectural gems to count. Emerald countryside, sparkling coastlines, and mouthwatering food and wine!

Portugal is one of Europe’s oldest nations, with origins shaped by Iberian tribes, Celtic peoples, Roman rule, Germanic kingdoms, and Moorish occupation. These layers of influence created the cultural and linguistic foundations still visible today. African influence in Portugal is visible in its architecture, music, cuisine, language, and social history, shaped by both North African Moorish rule and centuries of contact with sub‑Saharan Africa.

Prepare to taste the sea like never before. Like seafood itself, portuguese cuisine is fresh and comes in all sorts of delicious and original combinations. Clams, shrimp, lobster, crab and other kinds of shellfish and seafood is widely available. Salada de polvo (octopus salad) and Carne de Porco à Alentejana (pork with clams) are a must-try.

Does the idea of a steak, ham, cheese sandwich with an egg on top and a gravy-based sauce seduce you? I guarantee this Porto’s specialty is unlike anything you’ve ever tried before. Tip: save it for lunch and have something light for dinner. For the sake of your arteries! There’s life beyond custard tarts in the bakery department too. Portugal produces incredible pastries and loaves of bread as well.

Try a few of the traditional vegetarian delights of Peixinhos da horta – Deep-fried green beans (and sometimes other vegetables) in a light batter, often served as an appetizer. They’re a Portuguese take on tempura, introduced by navigators to Japan in the 1500s, Caldo verde – A green soup made with leeks, potatoes, and sometimes smoked sausage, but can be made vegetarian by omitting the sausage, Couvert – A classic starter platter of bread, butter, olives, carrots, and cheese, Migas – Vegetarian dumplings made from breadcrumbs, onions, and sometimes cheese. Pair all with delicious regional wine, famous Port and 18th century-style Madeira used to toast the Declaration of Independence, trendy craft beer, and traditional cocktails made with Ginjinha (Ginja) a Portuguese sour cherry liqueur. Saúde!

As you spend a week exploring the country, from Porto in the north to Lisbon in the south, you’ll discover that this tiny European country really does have it all!
Highlights
  • Porto’s Old-World Ribeira district
  • Douro riverfront
  • Stock Exchange Palace
  • Coimbra
  • Évora’s Chapel of Bones
  • Jerónimos Church
  • Olive Oil Farm & Port Tasting
  • Fado Dinner Show
